The 33-year-old Scot had already birdied the third hole before setting up an improbably birdie opportunity on the very next hole.
For the fourth day in a row the Scottish Open has been blighted by wet conditions but Ramsay negotiated the slow, undulated greens to get his second birdie on the fourth hole this week with an enormous 50-foot-putt.
Ramsay is hoping to qualify for The Open this week and this difficult birdie moved him in to the last qualifying spot, leap-frogging Frenchman Romain Wattel who is seven-under-par for the tournament.
The three-time European Tour winner started six shots behind the leader Alex Noren at the start of the day, but birdies on the third and fourth holes were followed by two more at five and six to move to ten-under-par and three shots back and tied for second.
