Mikko Ilonen registered the 1,000th hole-in-one in European Tour history during the second round of the KLM Open

Mikko Ilonen made history by making a landmark hole-in-one during the opening round of the KLM Open.

The Finn holed his tee shot at the par-three 14th on Friday on his way to a two-under 69 at The Dutch, with the ace the 1,000th ever registered on the European Tour.

Ilonen's historic ace, his second in European Tour history, came 44 years after Cyril Pennington recorded the first official hole-in-one during the 1973 Benson & Hedges Match Play Championship.
