Justin Rose and Padraig Harrington were among the European Tour stars to turn to social media to praise Paul Dunne’s impressive victory at the British Masters.

Highlights from Paul Dunne's victory at Close House

The Irishman fired a round-of-the-week 61 during the final round at Close House to secure his maiden European Tour title, finishing three strokes clear of world No 6 Rory McIlroy.

Dunne went into the weekend six strokes off the pace after posting rounds of 66 and 68 over the first two days, before surging into contention with a five-under 65 on Saturday.

The world No 192 chipped in at the first on Sunday and added two more birdies and an eagle on his way to a front-nine 30, before adding four further gains to seal a career-changing success.

Victory will see Dunne make a significant rise up the world rankings and move to 12th in the Race to Dubai, with a number of players keen to celebrate his triumph.
