The Argentine, a tournament invite at DLF Golf and Country Club, mixed eight birdies with a sole blemish to equal the course record and pull clear of the group of five players on five under.

Paul Peterson and Matteo Manassero are joined in a share of second by Pablo Larrazabal, who almost missed his tee time after oversleeping, with Adrien Saddier and Keith Horne also two off the place.

Saddier and Horne were unable to complete their rounds before play was suspended due to darkness, with 24 players still on the course and having to return on Friday morning.

"I had to play almost perfect golf to shoot a seven under," Grillo said. "I think anywhere else it would have been close to a 59 or something. It was definitely a magnificent round of golf.
