A final-hole eagle gave Eduardo De La Riva a share of the lead alongside Renato Paratore after the opening round of the Czech Masters.

The Spaniard holed his second shot at the par-four 18th, seeing his approach land a few feet short of the flag before bouncing in, to close a seven-under 65 and move alongside playing partner Paratore on top of the leaderboard at the Albatross Golf Resort.

De Le Riva recovered from an early blemish at the second to card four consecutive birdies around the turn, but found himself two off the pace until the last after Paratore's run of gains on the back nine.

"I feel good, I putted well and the long and short game were good too," De La Riva said. "It is very good to finish with a two on a par four, especially on this 18th hole which is very difficult."

Paratore almost aced the 16th when his tee-shot bounced off the edge of the cup, but the teenager rolled in the follow-up putt for the first of back-to-back gains to briefly hold the outright advantage.

A par at the 18th closed a bogey-free round for Paratore, with early pacesetters Matthew Fitzpatrick and Sam Hutsby part of a four-way tie one stroke off the pace.

"Today I played really solid from the tee to the green and on the back nine I putted really well," Paratore said. "My irons were good today and I gave myself a lot of chances. I made five birdies on the back nine and made a lot of putts.

A late birdie-run from Simon Griffiths looked set to threaten the top of the leaderboard when the Challenge Tour player got to five under with four holes still to play, only for him to drop a shot at the sixth and run up a triple-bogey seven at the next.
