Rory McIlroy describes how a tweak on the practice green helped him to his first PGA Tour title for 16 months at the Deutsche Bank Championship

Rory McIlroy has moved up to world No 3 by winning the Deutsche Bank Championship, showing a noticeable improvement in his putting on his way to victory.

McIlroy ended a 16-month winless run on the PGA Tour by claiming a two-shot win at TPC Boston, overturning a six-shot deficit during the final round.

The four-time major champion has criticised his performances on the greens at various points during the year, labelling his efforts as "pathetic" after missing the cut at July's PGA Championship.

The Northern Irishman has since spent time working with new putting coach Phil Kenyon, who also assists Henrik Stenson and Louis Oosthuizen, in a bid to find form and return to winning ways.

Although McIlroy didn't experience immediate success at The Barclays, where he finished third-bottom in strokes gained through putting, signs of positive change were clear to see on his way to victory in Boston.
