Former Masters champion Mike Weir fires a hole-in-one at the Par 3 contest at Augusta

The traditional Masters Par 3 contest at Augusta National was cut short, but there was still enough time to witness the first hole-in-one of the week.

The threat of thunderstorms and a tornado warning in the area saw play suspended at 1.20pm local time - less than an hour after the contest had begun.

No player was able to complete their round before the warnings were put in place and the course was evacuated, although 2003 champion Mike Weir gave the patrons something to smile about at the fourth hole.

The Canadian sent his tee shot 10 feet past the flag before watching it gently roll down the slope and slot in to the middle of the cup for the only ace of the day.

Last year's tournament saw a record-breaking nine aces, as Jimmy Walker set a record of eight under par to claim victory.
