The Spanish duo's hopes had appeared all-but over when Garcia's missed putt from less than three feet at the 11th moved USA four ahead, only for Europe to come back in dramatic style along the closing stretch to share the spoils.

Three consecutive bogeys from the 13th saw Europe closed the gap to two, before Garcia rolled in a 10-footer to birdie the 16th and halve the deficit.

The drama continued at the par-three 17th, where Reed found the green off the tee as Garcia's ended up in the rough.

Spieth dropped to the floor when his 30-foot birdie try stopped millimetres from the cup, before Cabrera Bello stunned the home crowd by perfectly judging his putt from off the green to make the contest all square.
