Skysports.com's picks for the British Masters

The European Tour arrives in middle England for this week's Quinn Direct British Masters at The Belfry. Famous for hosting four dramatic Ryder Cup contests between 1985 and 2002, the Wishaw course is still a relatively young one. Designed by Dave Thomas and Peter Alliss, The Belfry's Brabazon Course is celebrating only its 30th anniversary this year, yet already the famous layout possesses a rich history. Within a year of opening, the course staged its first European Tour event and over the last 25 years The Belfry has become one of the most high-profile venues in the British Isles. The flat, tree-lined course will not play as long as it normally does - if the recent spell of dry weather continues - but it will still offer a stiff challenge to all those taking part. This week's event is also only the second, and final, stroke-play tournament to be staged in England on the European Tour during 2007. And with the British Masters being number three on the Ryder Cup qualifying rota, there is a fairly good European entry.

Six players to follow:

Richard Green: Has posted four top-20 finishes from his most recent five visits to The Belfry. His last 18 rounds are averaging 71.89. Soren Hansen: No real record to speak of at The Belfry, but the elegant Dane is in sizzling form and was a winner last time out. Paul McGinley: Holed the winning European putt at the 2002 Ryder Cup, having finished second on the course 12 months earlier. Colin Montgomerie: Although his current form is hardly vintage Monty, the 44-year-old Scot, tends to perform well on difficult layouts. He averages 71.61 from his last 18 trips around the Brabazon. Ian Poulter: Despite not being the owner of a great record in the Midlands, the 31-year-old from Luton has played pretty well in the States in recent weeks. Lee Westwood: Enjoying a fine spell of form with top-10 finishes in his last three events.
