LPGA Tour: Gerina Piller leads Pure Silk-Bahamas LPGA Classic
Sunday 8 February 2015 09:49, UK
Gerina Piller topped the leaderboard on ten-under at the Pure Silk-Bahamas LPGA Classic before play was suspended because of fading light.
Piller was three-under after her first nine holes at the Atlantis Resort's Ocean Club course, having made 40-foot birdie putts at the third and fourth.
Just six of the field managed to finish before sunset at the event, with the tournament looking unlike to finish as planned on Sunday, after windy conditions after heavy rain washed out much of Thursday's play.
Six players sit one-shot back from Piller, but the 29-year-old believes she knows what she needs to do to stay ahead.
"Just minimize the mistakes, and fairways and greens," Piller said. "I mean, the wind could switch at any second, it can."
Lexi Thompson was among the chasing back, seven-under for the round with two holes left, and is impressed with the quality of performances on show.
"We were talking about that we probably had the best golf going on today, we had so many birdies," Thompson said.
"The first two days we were ball-striking it well, just didn't make that many putts, but today we were definitely feeding off each other off of birdies."
America's Brooke Pancake and Kelly Shon, Germany's Sandra Gal, South Korean Kim Sei-Young and France's Perrine Delacour also all one behind.
Second-ranked Inbee Park and Stacy Lewis were in the group at on eight-under for the tournament, with Lewis six-under in the round with three holes to play.
"I feel good," Lewis said. "I would have liked to have finished that round off today, but just going to bed with a good number posted so far, I'm looking forward to tomorrow."
Top ranked player Lydia Ko was 4 under with three holes left, while Michelle Wie missed the cut after finishing on five-over.
