Details for February 2009 tournament unveiled

Saujana Golf and Country Club near Kuala Lumpur has been selected as the venue for 2009's Maybank Malaysian Open. The tournament, which was the first in Asia to be co-sanctioned by the European and Asian Tours in 1999, will host the event for the eighth time in 13 years from February 12 to 15. Nicknamed 'The Cobra', Saujana's Palm Course has seen winners including Lee Westwood, Vijay Singh and two-time champion Thongchai Jaidee of Thailand in previous years. Sweden's Peter Hedblom was the last to conquer it back in 2007, but Arjun Atwal of India is the event's reigning champion having won at Kota Permai Golf and Country Club in 2008. European Tour chief executive George O'Grady said: "The European Tour is going through significant changes this season with the inaugural Race to Dubai and we hope that the Maybank Malaysian Open benefits from this exciting new competition. "Malaysia is one of the European Tour's most exciting destinations that our members have enjoyed since first coming here in 1999."
