Monday finish likely in penultimate US Tour event

Play in the Viking Classic was abandoned without a ball being hit for the second successive day, with the event already poised for a Monday finish. Two consecutive rounds have not been postponed on the PGA Tour since the 2005 BellSouth Classic, but that was the case at the Annandale Club in Madison, Mississippi on Friday after further torrential rain. Tee-times were pushed back for a second day in a row in an attempt to make the course playable, but officials were forced to take second best once again as the wet weather continued. Thunderstorms are forecast throughout the night and although the first round is slated for a 7.20am Saturday start, a later tee-off looks a more likely scenario. PGA Tour officials were still hoping to play four rounds into next week but tournament director Randy Watkins said further heavy rain on Friday evening could force the tournament to be cancelled. "If we get a bunch of rain it will be totally unplayable," Watkins told reporters. "Any time next week is then probably unlikely but that's still to be determined."
