Katherine Kirk, Dori Carter and Lizette Salas share the lead after the opening round of the LPGA Meijer Classic in Michigan.

They all shot seven under 64 on Thursday after going out among the earlier starters, who got the better of the conditions at the Blythefield Country Club.

Salas was the only one of the leading trio to make it round bogey-free, while Australian star Kirk had seven birdies and an eagle to go with dropped shots at the seventh and 15th.

Carter made five birdies in her first nine holes and had three more coming home, dropping a shot at the 13th.

Jaye Marie Green and Taiwanese rookie Hsu Wei-Ling were tied behind the leaders at 65 after the first 18 holes of the $2m LPGA Tour event.

"I drove it pretty well and I think I hit 16 greens and made quite a few birdies and an eagle," said Kirk,  who finished second in the 2010 Women's British Open. "I got off to a good start and kind of just kept it going, which was nice."
