Lexi Thompson and Lydia Ko on the move at the Evian Championship

Mi Hyang Lee clung on to a one-shot lead at the Evian Championship as Lexi Thompson and Lydia Ko both made impressive charges on a wet and cool third day in France.

Lee recovered from bogeys at the opening two holes to salvage a one-under 70 and retain her overnight lead on one under par, but Thompson emerged as her closest challenger after a superb 66 and Ko carded a 67 to move alongside Morgan Pressel on eight under.

Thompson began her move with her first birdie of the day at the sixth and she added another at the next before reeling off four in six holes after the turn, although a poor tee-shot at the short 16th cost her a share of the lead.

"I just kind of figured out a little something with my putting that worked and that helped me out today," said Thompson. "I didn't hit it that great off the tee today. I hit it a lot better off the tee yesterday, but I just got more putts today."

Pressel looked primed to share the 54-hole lead after she birdied the 13th and 15th holes, but the American Solheim Cup star came to grief at the last and ran up a double-bogey six to complete a frustrating 71.

In-form Dane Nicole Broch Larsen is a further stroke off the pace after a remarkable 71 which included a run of five birdies and three bogeys in an erratic eight-hole stretch from the sixth.

Larsen shares fifth with Amy Yang, who holed her second shot to the opening hole in her 68, and Chinese powerhouse Shanshan Feng, who made three birdies on the inward half before closing out a 70 with a bogey at the last.

It was another mixed bag of a round from English hope Charley Hull, whose third straight 70 featured six birdies but also three bogeys and one double-bogey.

The 19-year-old heads into the final round seven shots behind the leader, while Michelle Wie is on two under after birdies at three of the final four holes salvaged a 70, and world No 1 Inbee Park (70) is also eight shots back.
