The historic Royal Troon links hosts The Open for the ninth time this week and is regarded as one of the most challenging layouts on the Open rota.

Situated on the Ayrshire coast on the west of Scotland, much of the course is exposed to the elements and features a number of world-famous holes, including the iconic Postage Stamp and the Railway.

Avoiding the numerous pot bunkers as well as the deep rough and gorse is crucial to getting round in a respectable score, and the 156 players in the field will have every aspect of their game tested to the full throughout the week.

Minor changes have been made to every hole since the course last hosted The Open in 2004, while the ninth, 10th and 15th holes have undergone a more significant transformation.

This year's Open course will measure in at 7,190 yards with a par of 71 - not long by modern standards, but that does not mean the layout will be any less of a test.
