Aidan Harte's late score earns Galway replay with Dublin

Dublin and Galway will have to replay their Leinster hurling quarter-final next Saturday after Aidan Harte's late score levelled the scores at Croke Park.
Dublin were in control for much of the second half in windy conditions in the capital, but a number of missed chances kept Galway in the game and allowed them to set up a second chance at moving into the semi-finals, which will take place at Tullamore on Saturday.
David Treacy missed an easy enough free for Dublin with just two minutes to go, which would have given them a two-point cushion, leaving Galway to pull out the last score, from midfielder Harte.
They had one last chance for to take outright victory, although a long-range free from Joe Canning was snuffed out by the Dublin defence just before the final whistle.
Momentum certainly blew back and forth in the first half – although with Galway having the wind in their backs, they threatened to leave Dublin well behind in the opening 20 minutes, powering their way into a six-point lead.
Excellent points from Cyril Donnellan and Cathal Mannion, and a brilliant solo goal from Joseph Cooney, on 19 minutes, put them 1-6 to 0-3 in front. By then Dublin hadn’t even scored from play, and looking more nervous than ambitions, relied instead on three frees from Treacy.
Galway’s goal, however, stunned Dublin into life, as they suddenly hit the next four points without reply – and this time, all from play. Sutcliffe finally got himself in range, as did Johnny McCaffrey, with Schutte and Rushe then tagging on two more.
Suddenly the momentum was there for anyone’s taking. Colm Callanan brilliantly denied Colm Cronin a Dublin goal with his acrobatic save. Still, Treacy knocked over the 65, and when Sutcliffe added his second from play, Dublin were back to within one.
Moments later, Dublin goalkeeper Alan Nolan pulled off an equally deft safe, ducking down to block Jason Flynn’s close-range shot, after he took advantage of Peter Kelly coughing up Dublin possession.
It was proper championship hurling by now, both teams striking at will. Just after the half-hour mark Dublin tied it up again, thanks to another Treacy free.
Then in another chaotic goalmouth scramble, Canning found himself with the net open in front of him, yet somehow he blasted his shot wide. Canning put his head in his hands, and for good reason
Just before the break, there was time for Dublin to briefly edge themselves in front, with a second from Schutte, who was certainly underlining his league form, only for Galway to close up with two in succession – from Mannion and Flynn – to give them the one point advantage, 1-9 to 0-11.
It was certainly an absorbing game, with a taste of all four seasons in the second half, including some warm sunshine, interspersed with cold rain. Dublin looked the better team in that period, better drilled and definitely with the better confidence, as Mark Schutte, Danny Sutcliffe, Liam Rushe and Treacy all kept the scores coming at a greater rate than Galway.
Although not quite fast enough, as just on the hour mark, Galway drew level again – the fifth time in the game they were all square – with a free from the otherwise disappointing Canning.
From there it really was anyone’s game, and while Rushe gave Dublin a brief cushion again, Treacy’s missed free ultimately cost them – the only pity as he was otherwise faultless for much of the game, finishing with 0-11.
So it means at least another 70 minutes before the semi-final is confirmed, with the winners facing either Offaly or Laois.
