Who will Anthony Joshua make his first IBF title defence against?

Anthony Joshua

Anthony Joshua now holds the IBF heavyweight title, but which heavyweight opponent will he face for his first defence?

The unbeaten 26-year-old has become world champion in just his 16th fight after stopping Charles Martin in the second round at The O2.

Joshua has also halted all 15 of his previous opponents and it remains to be seen whether any future foes can withstand his explosive punch power.

But a new challenger will emerge from the current crop of heavyweights...

Haye was watching from ringside and remains keen to face his British rival, despite that two-round demolition of Martin.

"The way I fight is completely different to Charles Martin," he told Sky Sports. "I don't stand up in the air and my head is constantly moving. I have feints.

"I'd relish the opportunity to fight Joshua. I've never had problem with big guys like that. Wladimir Klitschko hit me on the chin and he didn't put me down. I can't think of a bigger fight in world boxing."

'The Hayemaker' will be expected to make short work of Arnold Gjergjaj when he returns to action on May 21 and a summer showdown with Joshua would attract a huge audience although Shannon Briggs may have something to say about that.

Deontay Wilder

The American is a natural rival for Joshua, with 34 of his 35 opponents falling before the final bell, and the heavy-handed duo would guarantee an explosive encounter.

Wilder must firstly negotiate a tough title defence against Alexander Povetkin, with the Russian holding home advantage in Moscow.

But Wilder, a bronze medallist at the Beijing Games, has expressed his desire to unify all the titles and must face our own Olympic hero if he wants to collect the IBF belt.

Dereck Chisora

Chisora, another fellow Brit, was originally considered as an opponent before Joshua decided to challenge IBF champion Martin.

Before the Finchley man can think of Joshua, he must overcome the dangerous Kubrat Pulev in a European title clash on May 7.

But 'Del Boy' has never backed down from a challenge and would bring experience, durability and a dangerous looping right hand.

Joseph Parker

The unbeaten Kiwi could secure a shot at Joshua's IBF title when he battles Carlos Takam for the right to become the organisation's mandatory challenger on May 21.

Victory over Takam will put Parker on a collision course with Joshua, although his next mandatory fight is not expected to be negotiated until January.

But Joshua has admitted the Parker fight will happen 'sooner rather than later' and might not wait until then to face another powerful puncher.

Hughie Fury

Tyson Fury might be tied up with a rematch against Wladimir Klitschko in July, but his cousin Hughie could represent the family name in a fight against Joshua.

Hughie has been named as a possible foe in the past and this fight would add a twist to a running feud between Joshua and Tyson Fury, which continued on social media last week.

Respected trainer Peter Fury, another member of the fighting clan, has been carefully managing the progress of his son Hughie and might be reluctant to accept a world title fight at this stage of his career.
