European Athletics Championships: James Dasaolu grabs 100m gold for GB

James Dasaolu crowned a golden evening for Great Britain at the European Championships by winning the Men’s 100m crown on Wednesday evening.

Dasaolu beat defending champion Christophe Lemaitre into second place in a time of 10.06, while Harry Aikines-Aryeetey continued his improvement by running into the bronze medal position, keeping veteran Brit Dwayne Chambers off the podium by just two hundredths of a second.

That success, a first medal at a major championships for Dasaolu, added to the latest in a succession of golds for Mo Farah.

He took the 10,000m title before Tiffany Porter won another Team GB gold when she got home in front by just three hundredths of a second to win the 100m Hurdles title.

Porter, who recently claimed Commonwealth silver in the same event, edged out Cindy Billaud of France in a winning time of 12.76s.

Continuing the resurgence of British sprinting, Ashleigh Nelson became the first woman since Andrea Lynch in 1974 to win a medal in the 100m when, like Lynch, she took the bronze.

Great Britain also enjoyed victories in both of the Men’s 400 semi-finals, Conrad Williams taking the first of them and Martyn Rooney following up easily in the second. The pair will meet in Friday’s final.
