Sir Bradley Wiggins has been named in a strong Great Britain squad for this weekend’s UCI Track Cycling World Cup in Cali, Colombia.

It is the first of three World Cups in the next three months and one of only four major international meetings left before next summer's Olympic Games in Rio.

Wiggins is one of six Olympic champions in the British team, along with Laura Trott, Joanna Rowsell Shand, Jason Kenny, Philip Hindes and Steven Burke.

The only big-name absentees are Ed Clancy, who is recovering from a back injury, and former two-time world champion Becky James.

Britain travel to Colombia less than a fortnight on from topping the medals table at the European Track Championships.

British Cycling coach coordinator Iain Dyer said: "We had some really promising performances at the recent European championships and we will be hoping to take that form into the first Track World Cup of the season.

"We have selected a strong squad as we look to keep scoring vital qualifying points for the Olympics in Rio."
