Laura Trott capped off an impressive outing at the London Track World Cup with victory in the women’s omnium.
The 22-year-old Brit took gold in the six-round event by 12 points, adding to her earlier success in Friday’s team pursuit.
Trott looked every inch the Olympic champion, winning the scratch race and individual pursuit rounds, in addition to second in the elimination, before securing gold following a tactical final points race.
Belgian Jolien d’Hoore took silver in the new format event, while Kirsten Wild of Holland rounded out the podium places at the Lee Valley VeloPark.
Sprint stars fall short
Jess Varnish forced her way through into the final of the women’s keirin but was on the back foot all event, eventually finishing fifth. After a trip through the repechage in round one the Brit dodged a crash on the back straight in the second round, only placing fourth. Yet relegation for Ekaterina Gnidenko handed her an invite to the final but it was China's Guo Shuang who prevailed.
Elsewhere in the men’s sprint event an off-colour Philip Hindes was only able to manage the 17th best time in qualifying before being eliminated his 1/16 final ride on Sunday morning. Dutchman Jeffrey Hoogland came from behind to beat Colombian Fabian Hernando Puerta 2-1 in the final.
Jon Dibben placed seventh in the men's omnium following a campaign hamstrung by a slipped pedal in the elimination race. Colombian Fernando Gaviria came away with gold.
