Andy Tennant secured a silver medal in the individual pursuit at the UCI Track Cycling World Cup after setting a new personal best.

The 28-year-old's success gave the Great Britain Cycling Team their second medal of the competition in Colombia.

Tennant finished the 16 laps in 4:22.095 to win his first world cup medal in the event against Germany's Domenic Weinstein, who won gold in 4:20.069.

"I'm pretty pleased," said Tennant. "I qualified fastest in a PB.

"I went on a 108 (in the final); it was just too big for me. I was 106 in the qualification.

"The qualifier was a lot better than that. I can naturally spin a bike at cadence for the team pursuit, we should have probably stuck with that, I would have probably been closer. Whether I would have won or not I don't know.

"It's my first world cup medal in an IP so it's nice."

Elsewhere, triple European champion Laura Trott made a superb start to lead the omnium at the halfway mark.

The 23-year-old finished second in the opening scratch race before taking third in the individual pursuit with a time of 3:36.371.

And another win in what has become Trott's trademark discipline, the elimination race, extended her lead to ten points, on 108, over Kirsten Wild with the time trial, flying lap and points race to come on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Jonathan Dibben remains in the medal hunt in the men's omnium, sitting in eighth overall after three events.

And Katy Archibald, winner of bronze in the team pursuit on Friday, was sixth in the scratch race, won by Cuba's Arlenis Sierra.
