Anti-Doping authorities put cyclist in the clear

Luxembourg's Frank Schleck has been cleared of involvement in a Spanish doping scandal. The rider, who finished sixth in the Tour de France and led the summer's race for three days, admitted to a "serious blunder" in transferring money to the Swiss bank account of a Spanish doctor at the heart of a major cycling doping scandal. But the Luxembourg Anti-Doping Agency (LADA) has found no evidence that he illegally used a substance or made use of any illegal methods so he has been vindicated. "I am happy that I have been able to prove my innocence," Schleck said. "Now I can focus on my work and the new season that starts shortly." The investigation into doping set off by police raids at clinics in Madrid and Zaragoza in May 2006, which uncovered steroids, hormones and the endurance-boosting substance EPO, nearly 100 bags of frozen blood, and equipment for treating blood, continues.
