Albasini secures overall victory

André Greipel wrapped up the Tour of Britain with his third stage victory in London while his HTC-Columbia team-mate Michael Albasini was also celebrating the overall win. The German proved the fastest finisher yet again at the end of eight, 12 kilometre laps around the borough of Newham and battled to the line ahead of Sebastián Haedo (Saxo Bank) and Englishman Roger Hammond (Cervélo). Albasini was also present in that front group which ensured he sealed his first triumph of the season with a one-minute-and-five-second advantage over Borut Bozic (Vacansoleil). Greg Henderson's intermediate sprint bonuses meanwhile, ensured the Team Sky man leapfrogged Richie Porte (Saxo Bank) into third. Huge crowds had lined the route on the final day of action and Koen de Kort (Skil - Shimano), Christian Meier (Garmin), Philip Lavery (An Post - Sean Kelly) and Dale Appleby (Raleigh) raced clear early on, but Team Sky worked hard to bring them back before leading out Henderson to claim his two decisive time bonuses. Five further riders would also to try their hand as the race neared its conclusion but the peloton was back together as they started the last lap and Greipel emerged from concluding mêlée to seal an impressive hat-trick.
