Greipel sprints to stage four win

Steve Cummings held on to the leader's yellow jersey at the Volta ao Algarve despite crashing inside the final 10km. The 29-year-old Team Sky rider was sent tumbling as the riders approached the destination town of Tavira but fortunately the fall didn't prove serious and he was able to swap bikes before being led back into the peloton by his hard-working team-mates. It was Andre Greipel who emerged victorious on the day, with the Omega-Pharma Lotto rider outpacing Michael Matthews (Rabobank) and Antony Ravard (AG2R) in the bunch sprint for the line. Cummings crossed the line safely inside the lead group to ensure he retained his six-second advantage over Alberto Contador (Saxo Bank Sungard) at the top of the overall standings. Sports director Sean Yates told TeamSky.com: "Steve actually fell twice today. The first came in the feed zone and he was pretty battered and bruised from that. Then, in the final 10km, he clipped a wheel and went right over his handlebars. "With all that having happened we are relieved to still be in the lead and the team did a great job of looking after Steve and defending the jersey."
