Sir Bradley Wiggins will ride this Sunday’s Tour of Flanders after being called up to the Team Sky squad as a replacement for the injured Ian Stannard.

Stannard fractured a vertebra at last weekend’s Gent-Wevelgem in Belgium and has been ruled out of both the Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix on April 13.

Wiggins had already been pencilled in to ride Scheldeprijs on April 9 as a warm-up for Paris-Roubaix, but will now commence his spring Classics campaign a few days early.

The 259km Tour of Flanders is the second of the season’s five one-day Monuments and takes the riders over 17 climbs and 16 sections of cobbles.

Wiggins will be joined in Team Sky’s eight-man squad by fellow Britons Geraint Thomas and Luke Rowe, Edvald Boasson Hagen, Bernhard Eisel, Christian Knees, Gabriel Rasch and Salvatore Puccio.
