GAA: Dublin lead football nominations for PwC All-Star football awards

Dublin lead the way with 13 nominations for the PwC All-Star awards , while the All Ireland champions split the four Footballer of the Year nominees with Mayo.
Fresh from their thrilling weekend triumph over Mayo, the three-time champions dominate the list of football nominees with Jim Gavin's team well represented on the short-list of 45 names released by the GAA and the GPA.
Stephen Cluxton, the first man to lift the Sam Maguire Cup four times, is joined by teammate and man of the match in Sunday's final James McCarthy on the short-list for the main award but they face competition from Mayo duo Andy Moran and David Clarke.
Dublin's Con O'Callaghan is joined by Cork's Sean Powter and Galway's Michael Daly in contention for the Young Footballer of the Year prize.
As for the All-Star Football Nominations, the 45 names are split into the usual mix of three goalkeepers, 18 defenders, six midfielders and 18 forwards and it is no surprise to see Dublin and Mayo dominate after their brilliant campaigns.
All of those nominated will be awarded a specially commissioned certificate of achievement while the final 15 that make up the PwC All-Star Football team of 2017 will be announced on Friday, November 3 at an awards dinner.
After their 10-match Championship run, Mayo have received 12 nominations to go with Dublin's 14 while the rest of the list made up of Tyrone (6), Kerry (5), Roscommon, Kildare and Down (all 2) with Monaghan, Donegal and Armagh completing the high-profile line-up with one nomination each.
The GAA and GPA have announced PwC as the new sponsors of the All-Star awards in a partnership that will run until 2020 and see the rebranding of the awards under the title of PwC All-Stars.
