Club hurling round-up: Cuala stunned by St Mullin's, as Ballyhale and Ballygunner progress

A round-up of Sunday's club hurling matches, as two-time All-Ireland winners Cuala were stunned by St Mullin's of Carlow.

Leinster SHC quarter-finals

St Mullin's 2-13 Cuala 0-18

2017 and 2018 All-Ireland champions Cuala suffered a shock defeat in Netwatch Cullen Park on Sunday afternoon, as home side St Mullin's recorded a famous victory over the Dublin SHC winners.

County star Martin Kavanagh led the scoring for the Carlow side, as they built up a three-point advantage in the second half. Although the Dalkey side stormed back into the lead, a late goal from James Doyle swung the tie, and secured a famous victory.

St Mullin's will now face Rathdowney-Errill of Laois in the semi-final.

Ballyhale Shamrocks 3-21 Clonkill 2-15

Reigning All-Ireland champions Ballyhale overcame the first hurdle of their provincial campaign, with a nine-point win over Westmeath champions Clonkill.

Brendan Murtagh scored 2-9 for the underdogs, but it wasn't enough to live with the Kilkenny kingpins, as Henry Shefflin's charges had too much firepower, with Eoin Cody scoring 3-4 and TJ Reid bagging 0-11.

Rathdowney-Errill 4-16 St Rynaghs 0-10

Rathdowney-Errill secured a comprehensive win over the Offaly champions, as they progressed to the final four with 18 points to spare.

Late goals from James Ryan and Ross King ensured they eventually eased over the line, and in the process they sent out a statement that they are real contenders for Leinster honours.

Munster SHC quarter-final

Ballygunner 1-21 Sixmilebridge 0-12

A goal from Dessie Hutchinson set reigning Munster champions on their way, as they negotiated a tricky away trip to the Banner County.

The Déise side will face Limerick champs Patrickswell in the semi-final.

Tipperary SHC final

Borris-Ileigh 1-15 Kiladangan 1-12

Borris-Ileigh are Tipperary champions for the first time since 1986, after a three-point win over Kiladangan at Semple Stadium.

Brendan Maher and Co. bridged a 33-year gap, as they dug deep to put memories of their 2017 final defeat behind them.

They will face Glen Rovers of Cork in the Munster Championship semi-final.
