Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic shooter Ellen Halpenny has been called up to the Silver Ferns Commonwealth Games squad following the unexpected retirement of Irene van Dyk.
Halpenny is the only uncapped player named in New Zealand's 12-strong team for the Glasgow tournament this summer.
The 23-year-old from Canterbury has been New Zealand's best performing Goal Attack in the ANZ Championship this season, scoring more goals - with an accuracy rate of just below 82% - than her esteemed international colleague Maria Tutaia, who plays for the Northern Mystics, and Pulse veteran Donna Wilkins.
The squad is as follows:
Casey Kopua (captain), Laura Langman (vice-captain), Jodi Brown, Leana de Bruin, Shannon Francois, Katrina Grant, Ellen Halpenny, Anna Harrison, Joline Henry, Cathrine Latu, Liana Leota and Maria Tutaia.
