Actor James Purefoy told Soccer AM he is and always will be a huge Yeovil Town fan!

Hollywood star is Yeovil through and through

Movie star James Purefoy told Soccer AM he is definitely not a glory hunting Yeovil Town fan! The Rome actor dropped into the studio to talk about playing the title role in his latest film Solomon Kane, but also set about proving his allegiance to the West Country club. Yeovil's meteoric rise to League 1 has seen a host of 'fans' jump on the Town bandwagon in recent years, however Purefoy told Helen and Max he was definitely not one of them. He said: "No, no, no, not by any stretch of the imagination. "[My allegiance goes] way, way back into the names of those leagues which I can't even remember, like the Isthmus League and things like that!"

Climb

As well recounting tales of the 'good old days' when the Glovers would play on a sloped pitch which had an incline of eight feet, Purefoy revealed his joy at watching his boyhood team climb the leagues. "There was a lovely run a couple of years ago when we went from the Conference up into League 2 and then into League 1 and then we got into the play-offs and we were thinking 'oh my god, it's only a question of time before the European Cup is hoisted!' "The Championship was literally just one result away, and then we could have just carried it on and it would have been Old Trafford next. "It was really exciting but we've stalled a bit now. They've got a 10,000-seater ground and they want to go up to 20,000 and I think that extra 10,000 might make a difference."
Westerns
Yeovil may be his first love; however the 45-year-old revealed Clint Eastwood films are a close a second. In fact, his passion for Westerns was so great, that when he was a youngster he would dress up and watch them! "When I was a kid in Somerset I used to love watching those early Sergio Leone movies," he said. "You know, My Name is Nobody, For a Few Dollars, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. "And my mum made me a poncho out of an old blanket and gave me hat and then when I was 12 she said 'when you're 13 darling I'm going to let you smoke cheroots', can you believe that!? That's the '70s for you!"
