All change for Kane

The last two years have been life changing for Miles Kane.

In 2009, he made the big decision to leave his band, The Rascals, to pursue a solo career - but that's not the only major development that has taken place in the life of the 24-year-old.

You see, the last time he was on Soccer AM a few years ago, he was a Manchester United supporter - but on this occasion he pinned his colours to the mast of their bitter rivals Liverpool.

Kane, who hails from The Wirral, admitted it was a massive decision, but says he has been "converted" by his Kopite mates and was happy to "come out" on national television as a Reds fan.

"Anfield changed my life," he explained to Helen and Max.

"I'm sorry to my Uncle Paul, who brought me up and got me into United, but in the last couple of years I've been going to Anfield with my best mates.

"They took me in and it changed my life. They converted me and now I've come out!

"This is it with the boys - and they'll be buzzing back home. I've done it, this is a big move.

"This is massive, this."

Journey

But while switching football allegiances has been an exciting process for the singer, he has also been on quite a musical journey over the last few years.

His first breakthrough came at the age of 18 as guitarist in The Little Flames, before forming The Rascals in 2007. He then reached a wider audience as one half of the Last Shadow Puppets alongside Arctic Monkeys singer Alex Turner in 2008.

After the success of the Last Shadow Puppets' number one album, 'The Age of the Understatement', Kane disbanded The Rascals and is now preparing for the release of his first solo album in 2011.

And he says it is a lot more intimidating to release records under your own name than it is working with a band.

He said: "At first it was daunting because I've always been in a band or when I do the Puppets I've got my partner there.

"So at first it was daunting, but once you've come through it and made a great record it feels good.

"It's been a journey the past few years and I've learned a lot and been through a lot."

Kane's first single 'Inahaler' is out now with an album scheduled to follow next April.

And he told Helen and Max how he'd called on a few famous friends to help him record material for his debut solo release.

He said: "I started off working with Gruff Rhys for the Super Furry Animals, which is great because he's a legend. I learned so much from him.

"I worked with a few different producers and got Noel Gallagher singing harmony on this one track. That's great because he's a hero."
