Athletes get behind Women's Sport Week which begins today with the initiative aiming to raise the profile of women's sport

Women's Sport Week is back for 2017 and it's bigger than ever in a huge year for female sport and it kicks off on Monday June 19.

After the success of the week in October 2016, #WSW2017 is back and running right through until Sunday June 25. The theme this year is getting More Women, More Active.

In addition to more coverage for women's sport, there is a sustained push this year from national governing bodies, sports federations and commercial fitness brands to increase the numbers of women playing their sport or fitness programmes.

We are told that 11m women across the UK want to 'get going' and often all they need is a 'nudge' to get round those excuses (not enough time, can't afford it, don't like Lycra or don't know where, when or what they can do).

The message this year is to why not 'nudge' a friend to get active or go watch a match - whatever your sport or level of fitness? Register your Women's Sport Week activity, club or class on HerMoJo.

With plenty going on across the summer in terms of top quality sport, Great Britain and Ireland also host four world-class events with two World Cups forming the centrepiece of a magnificent summer.

Holders England join Wales and hosts Ireland in the Rugby Union World Cup which is being played in Belfast and Dublin and in football, Mark Sampson's Lionesses travel to the Netherlands for the European Championship.

On Sky Sports, the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup begins with England v India on Saturday June 24 and we will have coverage available on all 31 matches throughout the tournament culminating in the showpiece final at Lords on July 23.

For the first time, Sky Sports will show the Ricoh Women's British Open with all four days live from Scotland's magnificent Kingsbarns course, while our rugby coverage will feature England's matches against New Zealand (June 17) and Canada (Nov 25).

It's not just elite level. There are efforts to get women involved in a whole host of grassroots initiatives, including an ECB campaign to set up a nationwide network of 'Soft Ball Cricket' festivals. The NGB has a wide range of sports from British triathlon to hockey and ice skating all using HerMoJo to get their message across.
