Elise Christie became the first Briton to win two medals at a World Short Track Speed Skating Championships.

The Sky Academy Sports Scholar secured silver medals in the 500m and 1,000m in Moscow on Saturday.

Christie missed out on gold by finishing 0.273 seconds behind Fan Kexin of China in the 500m and 0.052 seconds behind South Korea's Choi Minjeong in the 1,000m.

The accolades are added to Christie's European title and World Cup victories in 2015.

It was a stunning effort for the skater who was considering not participating in Moscow after her paternal grandmother died earlier this month.

Christe said: "Under the circumstances, I'm really pleased with silver, but I believe I could have got more out of it if my head was in a different place.

"It won't mend a broken heart. But a silver at the world championships is a great thing. Thanks everyone."

The 24-year-old Scot, who was controversially denied medals in three events at last year's Winter Olympics, was already the first British woman to win an individual short track speed skating world medal with a third-place finish at the 2013 Championships.

Christie's result in Moscow pushed the seven-member British skate team towards its event objective. UK sport set the team a minimum tgaret of one top-five and one top-eight finish at the World Championships.

Elise Christie is one of 11 athletes being supported through the Sky Academy Sports Scholarships scheme.

The Scholarships offer a programme of support tailored to each athletes specific requirements covering areas such as funding, media coaching, mentoring and wider developmental support.
