England's Jack Laugher has defended his 1m springboard title at the Commonwealth Games.

Laugher, who won the event in Glasgow 2014, took gold with a score of 438, ahead of Australia's James Connor on 412.45 points.

Scotland's James Heatly made history as he secured bronze, becoming the nation's first Commonwealth diving medallist since his grandfather Sir Peter Healty won gold in 1958.

Fellow countryman David McMath won gold in the men's double trap shooting final earlier.

He set a Games record with a total of 74 - four ahead of nearest rival Tim Kneale from the Isle of Man who took silver.

It was a disappointing day for England's defending champion and Olympic bronze medallist Steve Scott, who failed to qualify for the final.

McMath added to team-mate Linda Pearson's double trap bronze medal from earlier on Wednesday.

England's Alicia Blagg and Katherine Torrance won silver in the 3m synchro diving in difficult conditions.

Blagg, who won gold with Rebecca Gallantree at the Games four years ago in Glasgow, secured second place with 276.90 points behind of Australia pair Esther Qin and Georgia Sheehan on 284.10 points.

"We worked really hard and it was tough to see our big rivals dropping out. It was windy and cooler but you have to keep yourself together," she said.
