Matsos turns to Giants forward

Dave Matsos has told skysports.com why he picked Bobby Robins to captain his side in the Elite League All Star game. After Paul Thompson named Cardiff powerhouse Brad Voth as the captain of the Southern squad, Matsos responded by selecting do-it-all forward Robins as the man to wear the 'C' for the North. Instead of picking players from their own teams, both coaches have chosen leaders from other rosters for the All Star game, which takes place on Thursday, February 19 at the Coventry Skydome. Speaking exclusively to skysports.com, Matsos revealed that he had done his homework before deciding on the American star. "I know that Bobby is a new guy to the league, but he's impressed me tremendously," Matsos said. "I've done a little bit of work on him - he's a player's player who works hard at both ends of the ice. He's got the ability to score goals and he's a well-rounded guy with a strong overall game."

Impact

Despite missing several games with injury, Robins has totalled 15 goals and 14 assists for the Giants this season. Similarly to Voth, Robins is a player who is willing to fight and has scrapped with the likes of Cardiff tough guy Doug MacIver and Newcastle hard man Todd Griffith. The former AHL forward arrived in Northern Ireland with a big reputation and Matsos believes that Robins has proven himself to be one of the premier players in the Elite League. "He's a vocal guy in the dressing room and has made a big impact," Matsos added. "People have been impressed with him on the road and of course the Belfast fans have really seen what he has to offer. "He's got a decorated resume and I definitely think he'll make a great captain for the All Star game and represent the North team."
