Los Angeles Angels young pitcher Nick Adenhart has died in a car crash hours after making his Major League Baseball season debut.
Adenhart was among three people to be killed in a three-vehicle incident on Thursday morning in Fullerton, California.
Doctors attempted emergency surgery on the right-hander - who had pitched six shut-out innings in a 6-3 defeat to the Oakland A's on Wednesday night.
The 22-year-old threw 12 innings in three games last year for the Angels having pitched for six teams in four seasons in the minor leagues.
He had made his major league debut last year on May 1, also against Oakland.
