The Game returns to RAW to renew his rivalry with Randy Orton
Randy Orton's attempts to invoke his rematch clause against new WWE champion Batista fell flat, as a sledgehammer-wielding Triple H returned to Monday night RAW.
The Legacy leader attempted to make immediate amends for his defeat at Extreme Rules by setting upon The Animal at the top of the show in Lafayette, Louisiana.
So severe was the beating inflicted by The Viper and his loyal followers Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase that Batista had to be escorted from the Cajun Dome in an ambulance.
But, just as it seemed he might be forced to forfeit the matchand his newly acquired WWE championship belt, Triple H made his dramatic return, assaulting his long-time nemesis with chairs, monitors and delivering a thunderous Pedigree on to a waiting steel chair to force a no contest.
Undercard
Rhodes and DiBiase had earlier defeated unified WWE tag team champions Carlito and Primo in a non-title match, with DiBiase sealing the win by pinning Primo.
Former United States champion MVP proved he is deserving of a shot at the world championship on next Monday's WWE Three-For-All - a special three-hour edition of RAW featuring all three WWE brands - with a convincing win over Matt Hardy.
And John Cena was also in town to take on The Miz, only for Big Show to interrupt their contest and get some semblance of revenge by attacking the Hollywood star.
As the former world heavyweight champion struggled to break free from Show's Cobra Clutch Backbreaker, The Miz seized the opportunity to deliver a steel chair to both the big men before walking out triumphant.
Santino Marella, Goldust and Festus teamed up to overcome Chavo Guerrero, The Brian Kendrick and Jamie Noble, meanwhile.
And finally, divas champion Maryse overcame Kelly Kelly and United States champion Kofi Kingston successfully defended his title against William Regal.
