Chambers wins first world title since drugs ban in Doha

Dwain Chambers ran the fastest 60 metres in the world this year to claim World Indoor gold in Doha on Saturday. Chambers stopped the clock on 6.48 seconds to claim the gold medal ahead of American Mike Rodgers on 6.53 sec and Daniel Bailey of Antigua who recorded 6.57sec. Chambers became just the second Briton to win the World Indoor 60m title as he emulated the feat of Jason Gardener, who scooped gold in Budapest six years ago. The win secures Chambers' first world title since he returned from the drug suspension he incurred in 2003, bettering his silver in Valencia two years ago. "It was not an easy competition from beginning to end," said Chambers. "I was a little bit slower out of the blocks and that is why I was not so relaxed as expected. "I am not used to having two so challenging guys around me. It was the longest six-and-a-half seconds of my life. "But I'm very happy with the win as it was one of my main goals ahead of the European championships in Barcelona, which is my main objective this year. "I still have to concentrate on my 100m performance to become the fastest man in Europe. Now I will enjoy this moment for a while and continue to work hard."
