Dutch delight for Vincent

Vincent van der Voort claimed his second Players Championship of the year with a thrilling victory over Wayne Jones in Haarlem.

Vincent van der Voort claimed his second Players Championship of the year with a thrilling 6-5 victory over Wayne Jones in Haarlem.

The Dutchman triumphed on home soil against the same opponent he had beaten to claim his maiden PDC title back in March.

Van der Voort came out on top in a deciding leg after Jones, who took out 108 to go 5-4 ahead, had missed two darts at double eight for the match.

Jones finished as runner-up for a sixth time on the PDC ProTour as he continues his search for a maiden ranking title.

He had swept past Tony Blundell, Andree Welge, Justin Pipe and Steve Evans to reach the last eight at the Van Der Valk Hotel.

Tense quarter-final

The man from Wolverhampton overcame world number seven Adrian Lewis 6-4 in a tense quarter-final before dropping only one leg against Gary Anderson in the next round.

Van der Voort began his campaign with early wins over Italian Sergio Pettarini and Denmark's Vladimir Andersen.

Kevin Painter, Colin Lloyd and Tony Eccles then fell to the 34-year-old before another Englishman, Mervyn King, who had knocked out Spaniard Antonio Alcinas in the last eight, was whitewashed in a one-sided semi-final.

Tony Eccles' hopes of appearing in Blackpool were also given a boost when he too reached the last eight.
