Australian Goldfields Open: Neil Robertson remained on course for back-to-back titles

Neil Robertson continued his perfect start to the new season as he sailed into the semi-finals of the Australian Goldfields Open in Bendigo.

Robertson, who won the first ranking event of the new campaign in Wuxi last week, beat Robert Milkins 5-2 to set up a last-four match against Mark Davis.

Davis compiled breaks of 50 and 53 in the last two frames as he came from behind to beat Stuart Bingham 5-4.

Robertson had taken some time to shrug off Milkins, who drew level at 2-2, before breaks of 45 and 32 put the Australian in command.

After completing his victory Robertson told World Snooker's official website: "I didn't score heavily enough when I had the chances so 5-2 was a bit flattering because it could easily have gone 3-3.

"The most important thing is to win - it's really pleasing when you play your best, but you can't do that all the time. I'm really proud to be in the weekend stage here."

Meanwhile Davis is relishing his chance to reach the final of a ranking event for the first time.

Davis admitted: "It doesn't get any tougher than playing Neil in Australia, he is the man to beat and has been for a while.

"I'm playing well and I'll enjoy it. I've beaten Neil a few times and if I can do it again I will fancy winning the tournament."

In the second semi-final on Saturday, Judd Trump will take on China's Xiao Guodong.
