Former world champion battles depression but will play at the Crucible.

Former world champion Graeme Dott has decided he will play at the Crucible next week despite still suffering with depression. Dott lifted the World Championship at the Crucible in 2006 but had decided not to travel to Sheffield this year after poor form and some personal struggles. The Scot has lost his last 15 matches and was hit hard by the death of his father-in-law and manager. His wife also suffered a cancer scare, but was thankfully later given the all-clear, but all the emotional turbulence has made a mark on 30-year-old Dott. A match against Joe Perry is first up for Dott next week and, after initially deciding not to take part, Dott says he will now play at Sheffield as missing the event would be too much to take.

"I had already decided last week to pull out of the championship and told my family I would not be going to Sheffield," said Dott. "But I have changed my mind because I thought it would just be too hard for me not to play." Dott is being treated for his depression and believes his health is improving, although he is still a long way off a full recovery. There is also a big lack of form in his game on the table, but nonetheless he will be trying to bounce back at the Crucible. "I'm certainly a lot better than I was - there has been a massive change," Dott added. "Although I am still a long way off from being okay and my form is a long way off from being good."
