Conor McGregor will bid to become a two-weight UFC champion when he faces lightweight king Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 197 on March 5.

The Irishman will challenge the Brazilian lightweight champion for his title in the main event in Las Vegas after he ended featherweight king Jose Aldo's 10-year reign inside 13 seconds in December.

McGregor will be aiming to make history against Dos Anjos by becoming the first UFC fighter to hold two belts at the same time and only the third to win two.

"This McGregor Inc executive business decision is brought to you by the King himself," McGregor posted on Facebook.

"Mr McGregor would like to thank the fans and the media for their patience in this decision. Mr McGregor was still busy counting the take from his last fight.

"He has chosen to dedicate this demolition job to the loyal people of Brazil and all the fans around the globe who stay true to their roots and loyal to their land. Mr McGregor has said that Rafael is a traitor to his people."

Holly Holm will make the first defence of her bantamweight title against Miesha Tate in the co-main event at the MGM Grand.

Holm made headlines in November when she knocked out Ronda Rousey to win the 135lbs belt at UFC 193.

The former professional boxer and kickboxer was expected to face Rousey again in the summer but will instead face Tate after she stated she wasn't willing to wait eight months for a rematch.

Tate lost to Rousey in 2012 and 2013 but is currently on the back of a four-fight winning streak and is rated as the No 2 contender in the 135lbs division following her win over Jessica Eye.
