WWE Smackdown: Dean Ambrose earns Intercontinental Title shot

Lunatic Fringe overcomes Tyler Breeze and Dolph Ziggler

Dean Ambrose became the No 1 contender to Kevin Owens' Intercontinental Championship after beating Tyler Breeze and Dolph Ziggler in a Triple Threat Match on Smackdown.

The Lunatic Fringe pinned Breeze following a Dirty Deeds to rubberstamp a showdown with Owens, the man he overcame in the semi-finals of the recent WWE World Heavyweight Title Tournament.

Ambrose shoved Owens after his triumph but the Prizefighter - Intercontinental Champion since overcoming Ryback at Night of Champions in September - opted to walk away.

Elsewhere, The Lucha Dragons picked up a non-title victory over The New Day's Kofi Kingston and Big E - receiving an assist from the Gobbledy Gooker along the way.

Kingston and Big E's comrade, Xavier Woods, dressed as the Gooker earlier in the show to celebrate 25 years since the bird made his WWE debut, so it seemed logical the trombone player was in the costume during his pals' match.

However, as Kingston attempted a top-rope move, the Gooker pushed him straight into Kalisto's Salida del Sol before peeling off his head and proving to be Jey Uso, with Woods having been captured by Jey's brother Jimmy.

The Usos, Kalisto and Sin Cara then proceeded to take out each member of The New Day - Jey hitting Woods with a picture-perfect splash - to further their claims for a shot at the WWE Tag Team Championships.

Alberto Del Rio and Jack Swagger's singles bout finished in a disqualification when the Mexican used a steel chair, while The Dudley Boyz's clash with Braun Strowman and Erick Rowan also ended prematurely when Luke Harper intervened and helped Rowan hurl Bubba Ray through a table.

Plus, Paige gained revenge for her loss to Becky Lynch when Raw was held in Manchester in early November by pinning the Irish Diva after wriggling free from the Dis-arm-her.
