But what are the greatest Survivor Series moments we have seen so far? In the first of a two-part feature, we look at the maiden Elimination Chamber Match and debuts for Sting and The Shield…

The first Elimination Chamber Match - 2002

WWE Survivor Series 2002 - Shawn Michaels v Triple H, Elimination Chamber

It was 14 years ago that one of the most destructive bouts in WWE - Hell in a Cell may or may not shade it on that front - came into being, with Shawn Michaels, Chris Jericho, Rob Van Dam, Booker T and Kane challenging Triple H for the World Heavyweight Championship. Michaels' Sweet Chin Music on Jericho led to the match ending up as a one-on-one between him and Triple H, with another Sweet Chin Music landing The Showstopper the belt. Nineteen Elimination Chamber Matches have now been held in total, with Jericho making a record eight appearances.

Who ran down Stone Cold? - 1999

Stone Cold Steve Austin - WWE

WWE posed a whodunit as "Stone Cold" was hit by a car before he could compete in the main event Triple Threat Match for Triple H's WWE World Title. Triple H, fellow challenger The Rock and the man who replaced Austin in the contest and went on to win the title, Big Show, all came under suspicion. The culprit was later revealed to be Rikishi, who drove into Austin on Triple H's orders. Not that Big Show cared - he was too busy celebrating his first world championship in WWE. Austin, meanwhile, took a break before returning to the ring in October 2000 to take on Rikishi.

WWE - Brock Lesnar v Paul Heyman (Steel Cage)

Paul Heyman and Brock Lesnar go together like Ant and Dec, and Robson and Jerome - so it was a shock to see the former deceive the latter. With Lesnar having hit Big Show with an F5 and primed to retain the WWE Title, Heyman yanked the referee out of the ring. The distraction allowed Show to bring a steel chair into play and hand Lesnar his first pinfall defeat in WWE. Heyman and Lesnar are back together now - the ECW architect flanked The Beast as he stunningly beat The Undertaker at WrestleMania 30 and will be in his corner against Goldberg on Sunday night.

Kane buries The Undertaker - 2003

The Undertaker had been the one looking to do the burying when he met WWE Chairman Vince McMahon in a Buried Alive Match, a bout that had stemmed from McMahon costing Taker his WWE Championship match against Brock Lesnar at No Mercy a month earlier. The Phenom managed to hurl McMahon into the grave but as he prepared to shroud him in dirt, his half-brother Kane appeared and threw him into the grave, giving a gleeful McMahon the victory. Taker would be off screen until defeating Kane at WrestleMania 20 in 2004, having readopted his Deadman gimmick.

The Shield attack Ryback - 2012

Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose will be fighting for their respective brands on Sunday night - Rollins and Reigns for Team Raw, Ambrose for Team Smackdown - but four years ago their sole intention was to dish out justice. The trio arrived on the scene as The Shield, with Ryback their first target. Rollins, Reigns and Ambrose rushed through the crowd and laid out The Big Guy with their patented triple powerbomb through the announce desk, allowing CM Punk to pin John Cena and retain the WWE Title, the Second City Saint taking his reign past one year as a result.

Sting helped Team Cena down Team Authority

Many said, and indeed feared, that the face-painted WCW legend would never set foot in a WWE ring but, finally, he did. Fans had always anticipated The Icon mixing it with The Undertaker but he chose to target Triple H instead as the elimination match between Team Cena and Team Authority came to a head. Sting planted The Game with a Scorpion Death Drop before hauling a stricken Dolph Ziggler onto a prone Rollins, the pin securing the win for Team Cena and ensuring The Authority were removed from power. Triple H gained revenge by beating Sting at WrestleMania.
