Kyrie Irving appreciated the rapturous reception he received from New York Knicks fans at Madison Square Garden but said his focus remains on delivering a championship for the Boston Celtics.
The trade of Kristaps Porzingis to Dallas on Thursday night magically opened cap space for the New York Knicks to sign two max-contract free agents.
Upcoming free agents who could have an eye on New York include Irving and Golden State's Kevin Durant.
Coincidentally, the Celtics visited the Knicks on Friday night, and Irving starred with 23 points, 10 rebounds and six assists in a 113-99 win.
He received loud cheers during introductions and was also serenaded with chants of "We want Kyrie!" during the game.
"It's nothing but a distraction at this point," Irving, a New Jersey native, said afterward of the cheers from the Knicks' faithful.
"I appreciate the fans, I appreciate the support but it's about our team now and what we want to accomplish this season, which is the championship. My focus is stuck on that.
"Coming to play at the 'Mecca' is always a great opportunity. I wanted to have fun tonight with my team-mates.
"We're building great championship habits so when we get to the playoffs we know what to expect from one other. That's what it takes."
After the interview, Irving presented his dad with his game jersey to cap off a special night at MSG.
You can watch Kyrie and Boston Celtics in action against the Oklahoma City Thunder on NBA Primetime, live on Sky Sports USA and Sky Sports Mix at 7pm on Sunday evening.
