Loughborough Lightning have named Rachel Henry as captain for the 2015 Super League season.
The former Manchester Thunder player has impressed during pre-season and welcomed the opportunity to lead the Lightning, who have brought in a number of fresh faces.
“There is a lot of anticipation around the squad and franchise at the moment off the back of a successful pre-season and also with the injection of new players,” she said.
“I am excited by the challenge and opportunity to the lead this group that are constantly pushing each other for improvement and results. We are looking forward to the start of the season and making a real impact."
Laura Steadman, the longest serving player, has become one of the vice-captains, with Lightning newcomer Rachel Forbes taking the other role.
Loughborough head coach Karen Atkinson believes the trio will supply a good mix of leadership skills as the team prepare for the opening Super League clash at Yorkshire Jets on January 30.
“They complement each other nicely and all have the respect of the group which is one of the most important requirements,” said Atkinson.
“Their job is crucial this season to lead the group both on and off the court. They need to show their experience, stay calm under pressure and motivate the squad when necessary.”
