Australia had a healthy 27-19 lead by half-time but New Zealand rallied valiantly, reducing the deficit to three goals briefly during the third quarter.

With eight minutes left it was 42-40 to Australia but, with Gretel Tippett now on the court, they extended their lead to five goals. New Zealand battled into the final seconds but Australia held on.

Player of the match Jamie Lee-Price said: "We stuck to the way that we play, and didn't let the pressure get to us."

South Africa battled to be level at 13-13 after the first quarter and, despite Jo Harten finding her range, it was 22-22 midway through the second. South Africa then crept ahead 27-23 at half-time.

It took England a further 12 minutes to draw level at 33-33 with the very physical South Africa, who regained their lead heading into the last quarter.

England were then left chasing an equaliser in the final minute but Harten's effort missed.
