Hertfordshire Mavericks ready for Superleague final with Surrey Storm

Skipper Sasha Corbin wants Hertfordshire Mavericks to reproduce the magic of their play-off win against Manchester Thunder when they take to the court against Surrey Storm on Superleague finals day.
Mavericks were surprise 48-41 winners over defending champions Thunder in front of a record crowd of nearly 4,000 at the Manchester Arena last weekend as they sealed their place in the final.
And England star Corbin wants to see similar endeavour from her team-mates at London’s Copper Box on Saturday as Mavericks go in search of their first title since 2011.
“We managed to put a performance together (against Thunder) that we were really proud of,” the 26-year-old told the Sportswomen show Sky Sports News HQ.
“We managed to stick to the game-plan and we showed that we could actually do it.
“We need to stay focused now and stay in our bubble and not get distracted by anything. We need to make sure we are a tight unit going into that game.”
Storm are likely to start the final as favourites after recording a 76-60 win against Yorkshire Jets.
The Guildford-based outfit have lost in three of the last four Superleague finals but assistant coach Tallisa Haynes believes Storm can go one better this time round.
She said: “That will be very much in their thoughts going into that final and see if we can close out the season in the way that we hope to.”
