New England Patriots wide receiver Michael Floyd has been sentenced to 24 days in jail after pleading guilty to a second offence of driving under the influence (DUI).

Floyd was handed a 120-day sentence in Scottsdale, Arizona, and will spend the first 24 days in jail with the remainder to be served as home detention.

The 27-year-old was arrested in the early hours of December 12 after he was found by Scottsdale police asleep behind the wheel of his SUV, with the engine still running.

Floyd was charged with seven offences but the only one not dismissed was a second-offence extreme DUI.

The arrest led to Floyd being released by the Arizona Cardinals and he was quickly snapped up by the Patriots, although he was inactive when they secured Super Bowl LI victory a fortnight ago.
