As the buses headed over the border under armed guard, the North Korean squad emerged - but it wasn't the squad most were expecting.
Rather it was North Korea's cheerleading squad - and the ratio of cheerleaders to athletes is more than 10 to 1!
North Korea have sent a 280-member delegation to Pyeongchang for the Winter Olympics.
But they have only 22 competitors at the 2018 Games and a dozen of them will form a unified ice hockey team with their neighbours in the south.
Yet North Korea has sent an astonishing 229 cheerleaders to Pyeongchang hoping to cheer the country on to glory.
Decked out in red fur-lined jackets, identical fur hats, finished off with matching ankle boots and identical suitcases, the cheerleading squad could easily be mistaken for a troupe of air stewardesses.
