Performance director happy with World Cup display in Munich

Great British rowing is in fine form ahead of their charge towards the Olympics after bagging 11 medals and five golds at the recent World Cup. GB Rowing's performance director David Tanner was delighted with the team's haul in Munich at the World Cup, which included an historic one-two in the women's lightweight double sculls. Three world champions from last year suffered defeat, but overall Tanner was delighted with the performance of the team as a whole. "We've got some things to improve but it's been fantastic to have so many great medal performances," Tanner said on the GB Rowing website. "We've had a really good world cup. We have seen what we expected here and that is that the standard of the world is coming up again." The highlight for Great Britain was undoubtedly in the women's lightweight double sculls, where Hester Goodsell and Sophie Hosking led home GB team-mates Andrea Dennis and Kathryn Twyman in their final. "It's great to make history and see two British crews on the podium", said Goodsell. Katherine Grainger had a new partner in the women's double sculls with Mel Wilson stepping in for the injured Anna Watkins, but the GB squad strength showed as the duo bagged another gold. Andrew Triggs Hodge and Pete Reed scooped gold, as did the women's pair of Helen Glover and Heather Stanning, while the men's four also came home in front with Britain's fifth gold of the World Cup. Olympic and world champions Zac Purchase and Mark Hunter were the biggest disappointment of the World Cup as they could only trail home in fourth.
